Hello,

I have just received my Fed macro rigid lens, with two pins.
Exactly the same as my "without pins".
But two questions about this lens:
- what means exactly the inscription on the barrel (cf photo)? Why this inscription only on the first serial numbers on this lens? (let us say from 1 to 114, for the moment!)
- about serial numbers, this one only has a cyrillic "z". Does it mean something for russian lenses?

Thanks. Amitiés. Jacques.

I could not see any "CF Photo" nor "z" in the picture you post.
The inscriptions are:
Rasstoyanie ot obiekt= Distance from the object
Masshtab=Ratio(reducing)
The numbers are 90° from the script
I see a number 15, an arrow and an infinity mark?
Also a number 2 together Masshtab.
Regards
LP

Thanks a lot, Luiz.
I realize that the inscriptions are only the explanations for the two ranges of numbers: distance from the object and ratio of reducing.

As for the z, here is a photo. It is at the place of the serial number. Does it mean anything?

Amitiés. Jacques.
PS: cf = the abbreviation for the latin "confer" = notice or observe (the photo). Sorry.

Really I cannot say for sure; but we can go to the range of speculations. At this time, not every stage of the manufacturing processes were yet standartized in Russia, being so, it would be probable that this "Z" would mean Serial batch, or Responsible for the production or the Quality level. Those lens types were not to be freely marketed, but mainly used by governamental departments for various specific purposes.
The right answer is still unknown (by me). May Zoom answer something?

Thanks Luiz.

Sure anyway that this lens is not a prototype but belongs to the first production batch: 2 pin lenses have all early serial number(around 1xx).
Without pins lenses have post 12xxx serial numbers (in fact, up to 15xxx).

Difficult to imagine what happened exactly...

Amitiés. Jacques.

I have seen these lenses with a heavierand thicker rear screw mount without pins. I believe that could, and for sure is, an earlier procuction.
