I wonder who made this contraption. KGB workshop?
I would imaging that for KMZ will be easier to modify camera then make all this heavy attachments.
And I believe KMZ engineers would came up with more elegant solution for such job.
It seems that this devise would be very hard to use on the fields.
And change film on the fly.
And sound of shatter is not exactly stealthy.
And limitation of only 36 frames.
And weight of all the heavy metal.
(ironically:) Poor KGB officers have to risk they own life to catch they own people using
such mechanical wonder
Absolutely incredible item for collection though!!!

I really doubt KGB had used this, since they had much more efficient cameras for these purposes... I would suspect it would be either MVD or some other division of Militia.. very possibly this was also made for private use.... Vlad

Allain!
You are fantastic in bringing to us such pieces!
I carefully noted the beast and will describe it,
A conventional Zorki 6 (with self timer and rangefinder!- Impossible of being used) is mounted in a large plate through its tripod bush. This camera aparently lacks multiple speeds on the dial and film indicator on the rewind buttom. The Zorki 6 is mounted with a modified production run wide angle Orion 15 with no focusing helicoid nor diafram control. According to the pictures the diaphragm is fixed at f 6 (the original maximum aperture)-has diaphragm blades but inoperative. The engenious thing comes now!
--One to take the picture, opens the lock and gives 4 pressures on the bottom right side of the bag; this advances the film; when it becomes hard the film is advanced. One pressure on the left down side fires the shutter.
Excelent for Museum pictures where pictures are forbidden!
My Suggestion to Allan! If you could give us greater pictures it will be great to put this apparatius in my Oddities Page!
Merci Allan! Mes Meilleurs Souhaits!

Very nice Alain! I have not seen it before. Vlad may be correct that it is a precursor to ZOLA,
since the lens has a date of 1966, at which time Zorki 6 was new, but Zola was not yet made until 1970.
No doubt that for some surveillance a 35mm negative or transparency would have been much better than 21mm!
So in a sense this may be a Zola prototype that was successful, did not need to be quiet for the kind of
job it was intended, and then was developed into Zola.

Regards, Bill
