Congratulations for this TSVVS, Fred! All seems OK to me. Idem for the lens which is a postwar Sonnar. The same series (before 31xxxxx) was put on the first Contax IIa.
It would be interesting to know the different numbers engaved inside and on the base plate of your camera.
Anything else interesting that year at Bièvres?
Amitiés. Jacques.

Hi Vlad,
I had no plans to buy something serious at Bievres, since I do possess at least 3 different versions of TSVVS camera already I have purchased less common to find version of Zenit-16 camera, black Narciss in great shape and Jupiter-9 lens for Zorki mount. But it was great to meet my camera dealers from Europe, to talk with Jean Loup Princelle and to feel the very special atmosphere of beeing here. I was offered few very rare soviet lenses for SLR cameras, but I'm interested in RF lenses only, you know

At least three different TSVVS, Aidas! These cameras are so common and trivial nowadays. Who doesn't have his own TSVVS?
To be more serious, your picture of a fake ZK Zorki lens makes me put questions about my collection: how many hidden fakes are there here? It's so simple for the early Kievs, for example...
Many thanks for the photos. I went to Bièvres in 2005, but I am too busy at the beginning of June now...

Hi Jacques,
You are very right about hidden fakes - they are everywere around us unfortunately . And this situation is growing up daily, since it's a good business for many forgers and dealers...
I have up to 80 known TSVVS cameras in my database. It's appr. 10 per cents of total production. Knowing that TSVVS camera is the top for every single collector of soviet cameras, it's not that much, what do you think? Many collectors possess at least 2 versions of the particular camera, i.e. 1949 edition and 1950 edition. I was lucky to obtain an extremely nice late version with "Mother of Pear" coverings as a 3rd TSVVS few years ago. And I'm not thinking this is too much for one fellow
Best regards, Aidas |

Hi Aidas,
Of course I was joking about the triviality of TSVVS! This camera is really a must for any Russian camera collector. And if I could find a 1950 one (I have a 1949')... I don't even dream of a "mother of pearl"!
The question of fakes puzzles me. Two or three years ago, I think I was able to share the fakes and the genuine ones, even when difficult (Zeiss/Jupiter lenses for example). Now, I am not sure of anything: certainly forgers made improvements...
Amitiés à toi. Jacques. |
